Jesús Lafuente

Jesús Lafuente, MD, FRCSEd, FRCS Glas, PhD, is a consultant neurosurgeon at the Hospital Universitario del Mar, Barcelona, Spain. His medical training was at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Spain, and his neurosurgical residency and internships were performed at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen’s Square, London, UK, where he also spent one year as Spinal Fellow completing his PhD. He is currently director of the Spine Unit at Hospital del Mar, and he has recently been appointed Associate Professor at the UAB. He is currently serving as Past President of the European association of Neurological societies (EANS), and he is the President of the Catalan Society of Neurosurgery. He also obtained a Master in hospital administration with the thesis “Reorganization of neurosurgery in Catalunya.”

His special interests include skull base neurosurgery, chiari and syringomyelia, spinal deformity, spinal tumors, degenerative disease and organization of surgical missions in developing countries.

Since 2009, Jesus has performed different surgical missions through various NGO´s in different Sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Ghana, Kenya & Tanzania.
